I was a kid the first time I hit Troc’s dance floor late 77 or early 78. I had gotten a fake I.D. on University ave in Berkley that enabled a barely 16 year old kid to enter through the doors of your magical palace. I was scared out of my wits but also excited beyond my imagination! “The Macy’s” crowd were the first group of people to befriend me but I soon learned that I was more suited to the morning dancers and the spinning fan boys for the all night dance that YOU had in store for us. I mean it was fun to stand and model with the Macy’s crowd but they weren’t that serious about YOUR DANCE. Bobby what you did to my mind, body and soul for the 4 years I was able to go there…well I have never been able to recapture since. And believe me baby I have been in discos all over the world…had great times but other DJ’s could lift as high or hold as long or bring down soooo slow as you could. We knew some of the same people in San Fran there for awhile but I was too young and to shy to ever really talk to you other than going up to your booth and pleading for a song with the ever present bribe of a cocktail or WHATEVER. I think I drove you nutts one night requesting Yoko’s Walking On Thin Ice one too many times. The way you would tease with the “Catch” of a song through out the evening (bumping it in and out) that it would drive ya into a frenzy if you didn’t beg for it to be played.
How you spun your magic with Amanda Lear’s “Follow Me” (wich will ALWAYS be Troc’s theme song for me) Carrol Jany’s ” Hit and Run Lover”, Cerrone’s “Call Me” , Tantra’s “Hills of Katmando” EVERYTHING and ANYTHING by the now angels Viola Wells,Sylvester and dear dear Patrick Cowley, just to name a few…was COMPLETELY the act of a true arteasion! I prey you are remastering your works and will offer them to you devoted fans soon…please.
You did an extended drum sequence in the opening of Donna Summer’s “ I Feel Love” that I hear everytime in my head when I drive over the Golden Gate and just for a moment I’m 16 again trying to get back home to Petaluma late, late Sunday night or actually early Monday morning only to fall asleep in first period English Comp class my junior year. Thank You for the music Bobby…I just wish I had them or at least some of them. Those songs are in my head as well as in my heart because actually they are really all I have left of so many of my love ones from those wonderful days and nights at that phenomenal time. If your ever doing gigs in San Diego or even L.A. (I’ll totally drive for that!) Please,Please put me on your mailing list and I will bring all my dancers from the dance.
