The Balcony was a bar on Market Street near Castro Street in San Francisco in the 1970's. It was dubbed the Bal ony after the 'C' fell off the canopy sign. I was the Sunday morning bartender from 6 AM until Noon. Each Sunday at 5 o'clock patrons used to line up around the block waiting for me to open the doors for the outrageous party waiting for them. I played Bobby's music exclusively for these Sunday parties. Bobby would bring his tapes recorded at the Trocadero Transfer to me at the Balcony for use at the bar. After dancing at the Trocadero Transfer until the early morning hours, I would leave to get ready for my own party at the bar. As soon as the door opened, the music took over and the patrons had a blast. This is a favorite tape of mine that I played in the morning. I would keep the music at a high up-tempo until about 11:45 o'clock and then begin a change with Bobby's 'early morning' music so the next bartender would be able to start his own party. We as bartenders were encouraged to create our own 'show', so each shift had something unique to offer everyone. The bar has a balcony on the ground floor so the overflow would congregate over the street. Many times neighbors called to please lower the volume of the music during those parties. Ah! The good old days of disco. Still partying after all those years, John Scholten

Wow Bobby what a fantastic set you have created here. This compilation is an amazing look back. The music selection is without question one of the best I have heard in a very long time. Its so nice to see that you just keep pulling them out of your time vault for us to enjoy. I especially enjoyed the Donna Summer portion. Thanks again for a flash back and a flood of wonderful memories.

My first time in there at 6:15 am in 1979 (I was a mere 18yrs old) after the Salute to Men of San Fran Party at Galleria, friends took me there perched me center room near an open window and I what I saw that morning lasted me my entire gay life, I could never be shocked by anything again....someone was spread eagle on the pool table while another gentleman was fisting him, BUT he did not have a hand, just a stump! I could not possible ever be shocked by anything after that morning.....A guy and his girlfriend in full brown leather matching outfits had driven up from LA and were trying to lure me to their hotel. My friends caught it and quickly removed me from that perch....what a church day that was! I would LOVE to get twisted at the Balcony and it costs more so let me know how much I need to send u......I totally psyched to hear it! take care mister
